About The Position

Adventist Rehabilitation - Rockville is seeking to hire an experienced Patient Access Manager for our location in Rockville, MD. As a Patient Access Manager, you will be responsible for selecting and developing individuals within your area of responsibility, fostering associate loyalty and retention through engagement and inclusion. You will develop associate work schedules to ensure cost-effective staffing that meets customer requirements while promoting an economical and efficient workforce and considering work-life balance. You will establish, implement, and evaluate ongoing performance improvement programs, utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, and escalate any unfavorable trends or disciplinary actions to your immediate supervisor. You will also be responsible for managerial follow-up related to performance, up to and including disciplinary actions and termination. This role involves financial and personnel management of assigned areas, providing leadership for departmental services through collaboration with customers, employees, physicians, clinics, other Navigant/client departments and services, and vendors. You will be directly responsible for effectively managing the assigned Patient Access activities and staff members, demonstrating the ability to interpret 3rd party payer contract requirements and recommend, design, and implement procedures for compliance with regulations and standards. You will use knowledge of Patient Access industry leading practices, performance metrics, and monitors to expedite appropriate use of resources and ensure 3rd party payor and client compliance. You will be responsible for distributing process updates regarding criteria changes, regulation changes, process and program changes to assigned staff, ensuring their understanding and future compliance. You will effectively direct and facilitate a multidisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes, create a culture supportive of personnel, fostering individual motivation, teamwork, elevated levels of performance and accountability, and staff retention. You will support a collaborative, participative management style and foster a teamwork atmosphere between business and clinical stakeholders. You will maintain close business relationships with associates at the regional and local levels by ensuring onsite and virtual presence at regular intervals and during extraordinary events. You will educate physicians, physician office staff, and organizational associates regarding assigned Patient Access requirements, functioning as a consultant to Navigant Regional Directors of Patient Access, Client facility-based Patient Registration Directors, physicians, case managers, and others regarding assigned performance guidelines and standards for Patient Access services. You will meet with individual or groups of physicians, family members, 3rd party payers, and vendors as necessary to facilitate the Patient Access process, identifying action plans to improve the quality of services in a cost-efficient manner and facilitating plan implementation. You will prepare required reports using statistically sound information, displaying content in an easily understandable format, and escalate to the EFC Director or Client Account Executive any unfavorable trends. You will collaborate with Navigant Patient Access Leaders to resolve issues appropriately. You will maintain professional development and growth through journals, professional affiliations, seminars, and workshops to keep abreast of trends in revenue cycle operations and healthcare in general. You will participate as appropriate in continuing educational programs and activities that pertain to healthcare and revenue cycle management, as well as specific functional areas. You will develop and implement an annual plan of personal and professional development. You will demonstrate the competencies necessary to influence others’ behaviors toward a common dedication to the Navigant’s and the Client’s mission, goals, and objectives. You will participate in local, regional, and national health care revenue activities and professionally represent Navigant at these functions. Other duties as needed and assigned by the Director or in coordination with other Navigant or Client Patient Access or Revenue Cycle Leadership, including but not limited to leading and conducting special projects. You will develop project work plans, facilitate resource allocation, execute project tasks, and obtain assistance from other intra and inter-functional resources, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; 10 years of substantial experience and career growth in Revenue Cycle leadership role may substitute for educational requirement.
  • Minimum of 10 years in supervisory / management role
  • Acute Care Facility Patient Access Department leadership experience, managing one or more functional areas of: Patient Scheduling, Pre-Service/Financial Clearance, Registration, Financial Counseling, or other management functions related to revenue cycle activities in a complex, multi-site environment preferred.
  • Requires proficiency with: Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Prior experience with the major Patient Access technologies currently in use, and/or other “like” systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of consulting and project management experience in revenue cycle design and optimization highly desirable.
  • Certification within Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and/or the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) desirable
  • Experience leading or participating in large Patient Access-related IT and/or Contact Center program implementation preferred
