About The Position

The Pathology Administrative Assistant performs various administrative tasks to support the Anatomic Pathology department.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in typing (65 wpm) and spelling.
  • Must be able to transcribe medical dictation and decipher hand written reports.
  • Proficiency in appropriate department functions must be demonstrated after initial training.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Good customer service skills are also required.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize work in response to changing needs of Pathologists.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work productively with others.
  • Exercise sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Daily involvement with confidential information and data.
  • Possible exposure to hazardous and biohazard materials.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
  • Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.

  • Prefer additional medical terminology and computer skills.
  • Prefer pathology transcription experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pathology workflow support to ensure timely and accurate reporting to physicians.
  • Attend to requests for loan of blocks and slides for send-out.
  • Ensure timely scanning of pathology sendout reports into EPIC as required.
  • Answer and respond to phone calls as necessary.
  • Attend to materials related to pathologists requesting Outside Consultation as per office protocol.
  • Open and distribute US Mail and Interoffice mail.
  • Organize Surgical Pathology Case QA Review.
  • Track Slide Send-outs and Returns.
  • Serve as backup to Pathology Office Manager as needed.
  • Track QA Forms for conferences: Breast, Thoracic, GYN, Surgical Outside Consult, Tumor Board, Hepatobiliary, and Neuro.
  • Type addendums and amendments to surgical reports in a timely manner.
  • Transcribe and revise Consultation as requested by the pathologist.
  • Transcribe bone marrow and flow cases as requested by the pathologist.
  • Schedule pathologists to various locations and document schedules as needed.
  • Assist with copying and processing any Pathology documents as requested.
  • Comply with all company, department, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Handle client related questions and problems in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Promote positive communications with patients, clients, coworkers and affiliated hospital staff.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as copying, filing, logging into CAP required documentation consultation book.
