About The Position

Pathlink is seeking a Surgical Pathologist for a Medical Director position at Centrastate Hospital in Freehold, NJ. This role involves signing out complex surgical cases across all specimen types, managing laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic leadership. The Medical Director will oversee laboratory staff, quality assurance programs, and act as a liaison between pathology and clinical staff to optimize patient care and diagnostic accuracy. The position requires 20-25 cases daily and a call schedule once a month.

Requirements

• Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a surgical pathology setting.
• Strong proficiency in general surgical pathology and subspecialty areas.
• Expert diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory regulations and standards.
• Effective communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to drive process improvement and financial performance.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and sign out complex surgical pathology cases (e.g., frozen sections, biopsies).
• Oversee laboratory staff, workflow efficiency, budget, and equipment procurement.
• Maintain CAP, ISO, and CLIA accreditation, and manage quality assurance (QA) programs.
• Develop policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives for the department.
• Provide expert advice to clinicians regarding pathology findings for patient management.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, such as digital pathology or molecular diagnostics.
