About The Position

A respected litigation boutique is seeking a Patent Litigation Associate for its Oakland, California office. The firm handles sophisticated intellectual property disputes and high-stakes litigation for clients facing complex legal and business challenges. This opportunity is suited to an attorney seeking meaningful responsibility, close collaboration with experienced trial lawyers, and opportunities to develop litigation skills in a collaborative environment.

Associates work directly with firm leadership and gain hands-on experience across all phases of litigation, rather than being limited to research and document review. The role primarily involves in-office work in Oakland. The associate will handle patent disputes and may support other intellectual property matters involving trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and related disputes.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
• 3–7 years of experience handling patent litigation matters at a law firm.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
• A proactive mindset and willingness to assume increasing responsibility.

Nice To Haves

• An undergraduate degree or technical background in engineering or computer science.

Responsibilities

• Assist with complex patent infringement and validity disputes.
• Draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct legal research, factual investigations, and technical analysis.
• Manage discovery, including document review, written discovery, and depositions.
• Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings.
• Coordinate with expert witnesses and assist with expert discovery.
• Work directly with partners and senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation preparation.
• Support additional intellectual property matters involving trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and related disputes as needed.
