About The Position

Salt + Smoke is seeking a talented Pastry Prep Cook with a passion for service, hospitality, and a commitment to helping the restaurant run smoothly for the Back of the House. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, possesses a commitment to excellence and hospitality, can multi-task, and remains positive and upbeat. This role is responsible for all aspects of dessert preparation, including prepping, cooking, cutting, portioning, and packaging for both restaurant service and catering orders. The Pastry Prep Cook must cost-effectively prepare quality food while adhering to safe and efficient food preparation and handling policies and procedures, reporting any deviations to management. The ultimate goal is to ensure the restaurant is 100% ready for operation and clients.

Requirements

  • Ability to be organized and capable of multi-tasking with efficiency.
  • Basic pastry knowledge
  • Prior experience focusing on desserts
  • Ability to work in a face paced environment.
  • Ability to stand and be on feet for extended periods of time in varied climate conditions.
  • Ability to carry and lift up to 50 to 80 lbs frequently.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to travel locally for outside catering functions as needed.
  • Ability to use and learn different food preparation equipment as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1+ year of cooking or kitchen experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepping, cooking, cutting, portioning, and packaging of desserts for the restaurants and catering orders.
  • Cost effectively prepare quality food in safe and efficient compliance with proper food preparation and handling, policies and procedures.
  • Report any deviations from policies, procedures, brand standards and regulations to management.
  • Follow the prep list created by the Chef to plan daily shift duties.
  • Label and stock all ingredients on the shelves in an organized manner for easy accessibility.
  • Measure all ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking to prepare and assist line cooks.
  • Prepare all cooking ingredients by washing, chopping and cutting meat and vegetables.
  • Prepare and assist with preparing the salads and other side dishes.
  • Understand and comply with proper food preparation, cooking, handling and storage.
  • Understand and comply with kitchen sanitation, safety and equipment usage.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assist in putting away incoming orders and deliveries.
