About The Position

A Pastry Cook II works under the supervision of the Pastry Lead and Pastry Chef but must possess the ability to work independently. This role involves utilizing standardized recipes to prepare daily preparation requirements, maintaining par levels of necessary items, and creating daily production lists. The Pastry Cook II is responsible for developing new menu items under the direction of a supervisor, ensuring attractive and consistent presentation of food items (both buffet and plated), and interacting with other pastry cooks to monitor quality, presentation, and consistency. This position also handles customer requests in a timely manner, sets up, restocks, maintains, and cleans the pastry department, and ensures presentation standards are met for all items. Additionally, the role involves reading and interpreting recipes, assisting with product inventories, and ensuring team adherence to grooming, sanitation, and safe food handling standards. The Pastry Cook II is also responsible for all opening and/or closing kitchen procedures.

Requirements

  • Previous baking experience or professional pastry education required
  • Necessary State Food Handler’s License(s)
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to other employees
  • Must possess knife skills and the ability to adjust preparations for flavor

Responsibilities

  • Work unsupervised

  • Ensure attractive and consistent presentation of food items, both buffet and plated
  • Interact with other pastry cooks to monitor quality, presentation and consistency of food items prepared
  • Handle all needs and accommodate customer requests in a timely manner
  • Set up, restock, maintain and clean pastry department
  • Ensure presentation standards are met for all items
  • Read and interpret recipes
  • Assist with product inventories
  • Responsible for team maintenance of grooming standards
  • Responsible for team adherence to standards for sanitation and safe food handling
  • Responsible for all opening and/or closing kitchen procedures
