The Pastoral Care Professional - HC is an integral part of a Pastoral Care team that embraces a model of care for the whole person - body, mind and spirit. Directed to the spiritual dimensions of the human person that are often appreciated more deeply during times of illness, pastoral care is an integral part of the patient care team. Pastoral Care Professionals are effectively integrated with patient care and family support services on patient care throughout OSF. The Pastoral Care Professional is the spiritual care specialist and provides spiritual and emotional support and counseling to patients, families, and staff in accordance with OSF policy, mission and objectives. Pastoral Care works closely with other members of the Home Health, Hospice and Palliative Care interdisciplinary teams assisting with holistic care of patients and families, responding to the patient and family spiritual needs within the boundaries of their desired belief system. A foundational focus of Pastoral Care is to serve as a pastoral and spiritual support to patients, care givers and patient care teams in ways they identify as meaningful and helpful. Through professional training and certification, the Pastoral Care Professional assists patients/families to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.
