About The Position

The Party Chief (Surveyor) leads and directs a survey field crew, supervising and training Instrument Operators and Surveyor Assistants. The role collects survey data and performs layouts in accordance with Bechtel Surveying Procedures, establishes project horizontal and vertical control, and reviews design drawings and calculations. The position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, work at elevation on structures, and physical handling of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. The Party Chief communicates with Field Engineers and Supervisors, adapts to changing conditions and time constraints, and follows safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and train Instrument Operators and Surveyor Assistants.
• Lead the survey field crew and direct its work.
• Collect survey data and perform layouts in accordance with Bechtel Surveying Procedures.
• Mark measurement points with elevations, station numbers, or other identifying marks.
• Carry and set stakes and clear brush from survey lines.
• Stake and grade for excavation.
• Operate survey instruments and obtain data on angles, elevations, points, and contours.
• Compile notes, sketches, and records of data obtained and work performed.
• Communicate with Field Engineers and Supervisors.
• Assist in establishing horizontal and vertical control for the project.
• Review design drawings for correct data and perform and check calculations.
• Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
• Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
• Adhere to safety procedures.
