About The Position

Math tutors support student learning and success by helping students strengthen their understanding of course content, build academic confidence, and develop effective study skills. In addition to providing one-on-one and small-group tutoring, the math tutor also serves as an embedded tutor in assigned classes, offering in-class support, encouraging student engagement, and helping connect course instruction with tutoring services.

Requirements

• Grade of an A or B in College Algebra & Trigonometry
• Successful completion of 12+ college credits at an accredited college.
• Overall college GPA 3.0 or above.
• Patience, kindness, dependability, and a strong interest in helping others
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and reiterate course content
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Maintain competence in subjects tutored by reviewing course materials
• Proficiency with computer programs, including PeopleSoft, Blackboard, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Starfish
• Behave professionally with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff

Nice To Haves

• Working towards an associate or bachelor’s degree
• Successful completion of 12+ credits of SKYCTC college courses.
• Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches math or science at SKYCTC.
• Grade of A or B in additional math courses (Examples: Calculus I or Statistics)
• Ability to tutor in additional subjects such as CIT, accounting, writing, chemistry, or physics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students one-on-one or in small groups in person or virtually.
• Work as embedded tutors in assigned math classes.
• Attend class sessions, assist students during class activities, and collaborate with instructors.
• Help reinforce course material outside of class.
• Attend trainings.
• Log tutoring appointments in Starfish.
• Maintain communication with staff.
• Participate in program feedback and meetings.
• Complete weekly outreach and intervention efforts to support student engagement and success.
