About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada, Disability Resource Center/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services is seeking part-time Accommodation Service Providers to attend classes with students, both on-campus and virtually. These students have documented disabilities or other related requirements necessary for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Positions are available on all campuses. Candidates may work on one campus exclusively or multiple campuses based on candidate preference and departmental need.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, preferably with a minimum of one-year post-secondary educational experience.
  • Must possess an understanding of the basic sensitivities pertinent to communication with students who have disabilities.
  • Ability to take thorough and organized notes utilizing available technology from information presented verbally in classrooms.
  • Must have legible handwriting, accurate spelling, use of acceptable grammar, and proficiency in use of computers.
  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff

Responsibilities

  • Take notes in class, on the ground or virtually on one specific campus or multiple campuses for students with documented disabilities.
  • Read printed material, assignments and or tests aloud for students with visual impairments.
  • Scribe or transcribe for students with mobility impairments. When software is not available or applicable.
  • Assist students with visual impairments in classes by functioning as a reader or providing notes electronically
  • Assist students within lab environments by providing lab assistant duties under instructor guidance.
  • Serve as a proctor for students with disabilities during exams, ensuring strict adherence to testing protocols, approved accommodations, and academic integrity standards.
  • Support Disability Resource Center (DRC) Alternative Testing services by administering and proctoring accommodated exams in accordance with approved accommodations, faculty instructions, and established DRC testing procedures.
  • Monitor testing environments, verify student identity, enforce approved materials and time limits, and accurately document exam start/end times and any irregularities in accordance with DRC procedures.
  • Maintain a secure testing environment by controlling access to personal items, preventing unauthorized materials, and immediately reporting any testing concerns or violations
  • Assist DRC office in processing of accommodations in the office environment
  • Assist with adaptive technology equipment set up and take down.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and institutional policies.
  • Maintains strict adherence to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, and institutional policies regarding sensitive student data, information, and accommodations.
