About The Position

The Recreation Assistant provides direct support to the Recreation Coordinator in the planning and delivery of activities, events, and outreach initiatives for the Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn ADHC locations. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, with frequent interaction across a diverse group of clients, colleagues, Housing Works staff, and external vendors. A friendly, collaborative, and proactive approach is essential to fostering effective clinical and professional relationships. Candidates should demonstrate creativity in decorating and event preparation, strong problem‑solving and leadership abilities, and the capacity to effectively represent and articulate the needs of the community.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma or at least 1-2 years of administrative experience.
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Dependability and reliability to arrive and depart timely for scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to travel within New York City via public transportation and accompany clients on recreation outings.
  • Responsible for complying with HIPAA standards and observing strict patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Recreational/Activities therapy experience and/or training recommended.
  • Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily operations of on-and off-site activity and event coordination.
  • Assist in general logistics for events & participant sign-up forms and event attendance sheets.
  • Assist with dissemination of monthly calendars, flyers, and event updates to clients and staff.
  • Support clients in navigating monthly event sign-up forms and processes as needed.
  • Keep track of supplies and request replenished items as needed.
  • Oversee activities as needed.
  • Support team with outreach to ADHC clients as needed to increase programming engagement.
  • Responsiveness to email, texts, and phone calls
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in staff meetings and training.
  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance with Housing Works policies and practices.
  • Answer inquiries about HW or route calls to specific staff.
  • Direct clients on the pause list to the designated staff member.
  • Ability to assist with facility decorating and setup for holidays, events, and special programs.
