About The Position

Ivy Tech is seeking a motivated and skilled Part-Time Math Tutor to support students at all levels of Ivy Tech math. This position involves providing in-person tutoring in a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters academic growth. The role includes 1-on-1 tutoring in math courses and facilitating group tutoring sessions, exam review, and TEAS bootcamp. An ideal candidate will have experience with math education at the high-school and early college level, strong customer service skills, experience working with disabled students, and a passion for helping students succeed. TRIO Student Support Services at Ivy Tech Indianapolis is searching for a part-time tutor in Math. TRIO SSS is a federally funded program that serves students who are low income, first generation and/or have documented disabilities, to help them persist and succeed in completing their degree. This position is limited to 15 hours per week for 30 weeks during the 2026–2027 academic year. Availability may include in-person, virtual, and weekend hours based on program and student needs.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in math subjects from pre-algebra to college-level trigonometry
  • Ability to quickly identify key student concerns and prioritize subject issues
  • Ability to guide students through complex concepts with patience and clarity
  • Willingness to dig beneath surface-level questions to address root challenges
  • Ability to motivate and coach others and remain adaptable to various student needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and desire to identify and support student success.
  • Capable of maintaining a professional and supportive tone as well as a positive, growth-oriented mindset in all settings
  • Maintain an inclusive, clean, and student-friendly environment
  • Promote respect and collaboration among students
  • Accurately track tutoring sessions for outcome reporting
  • Adhere to academic and privacy standards, including FERPA compliance
  • Strong background in Math

Nice To Haves

  • Additional knowledge in calculus, physical sciences, accounting, engineering, or IT support is a plus
  • Experience with math education at the high-school and early college level
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience working with disabled students
  • A passion for helping students succeed
  • Prior tutoring, teaching, and/or mentoring experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Use established Math and Science Center pedagogy and protocols to tutor students one-on-one in life science courses and science-related courses.
  • Thoroughly document tutoring data.
  • Sustain high-quality customer service while facilitating back-to-back tutoring sessions.
  • Apply advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve student questions and inquiries.
