About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking experienced faculty for part-time assignments in Exercise Science at the Sylvania Campus. This is an interest pool, meaning applications will be reviewed as the need for new part-time faculty arises throughout the year. Immediate openings are available for the Winter 2026 term. PCC is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, committed to making high-quality education accessible and contributing to community economic development. The department is looking for individuals with expertise in theoretical knowledge and practical application of resistance training principles, fitness assessment, exercise program design, and/or biomechanics/kinesiology. Opportunities may also exist to teach Physical Education Activity courses. Applicants are encouraged to review the PCC Course Catalog for relevant courses and list those they are qualified to teach in their application.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Fitness, Sports Science, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology plus three years (3) experience in the industry.
  • OR Master’s degree in any field plus Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Fitness, Sports Science, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology plus three years (3) experience in the industry.
  • Ability to establish residence in Oregon or Washington.

Nice To Haves

  • National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified Strength & Conditional Specialist (CSCS) preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Fitness, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology.
  • Three (3) years of recent experience teaching adults in Physical Education or fitness-related classes.
  • Ability to teach at least one of the listed Professional Activities classes (Group Fitness, Weight Training, Mind-Body, Team Sports, Special Populations, Older Adult Fitness, or Aquatics).
  • Current certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • Experience teaching theoretical lecture classes in one or more of the following: exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, fitness promotion, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, sports nutrition, fitness for special populations, basic anatomy and physiology for fitness instructors.
  • Experience teaching and supervising students in practical laboratory settings, including at least one or more of the following laboratory topics: anatomy, kinesiology, fitness assessment, body composition, exercise prescription, metabolic cart/VO2max testing, electrocardiogram (ECG), and graded exercise testing (GXT).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Exercise Science courses, including theoretical knowledge and practical application of resistance training principles and techniques, fitness assessment, exercise program design, and/or biomechanics/kinesiology.
  • Potentially teach Physical Education Activity courses.
  • List current PCC courses which you would be able to teach as part of the application process.
  • Be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.
