About The Position

Portland Community College is accepting applications for a Part-Time Faculty Interest Pool for Composition and Literature. This pool is used to identify applicants for course assignments as the need arises for new part-time faculty. Applications may be considered for substitute or full-term class assignments. The department reviews applications as needs emerge throughout the academic year. The college serves approximately 80,000 students across four campuses, five workforce training centers, and 200 community locations, aiming to make high-quality education accessible and contribute to economic development.

Requirements

  • MFA, MA, or PhD in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition, OR an MA or PhD in an interdisciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit hours in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition.
  • Taught at least four college-level composition classes or have equivalent college classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program.
  • Must reside in Oregon or Washington.
  • Must be able to establish residence in Oregon or Washington.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching writing and/or literature at the lower-division collegiate level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach college-level composition and literature courses.
  • Potentially teach substitute assignments or full-term class assignments.
  • List current PCC courses that you would be able to teach.
