About The Position

In Ferguson-Florissant, our "New Chapter" is intensely focused on early childhood literacy, reading recovery, and equitable access to high-quality language instruction. We are seeking a passionate, certified, and relational Part-Time ELA (English Language Arts) Teacher to join our elementary team. In this targeted role, you will have the unique privilege of delivering focused reading, phonics, and writing instruction to elementary scholars. Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain a valid, active Missouri Elementary Education Certification (Grades 1-6 or similar elementary-level DESE endorsement).
  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Reading Instruction, or a closely related field (required for state certification).
  • Deep understanding of the science of reading, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
  • Exceptional human relations skills with a genuine sensitivity, patience, and enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged children.
  • Ability to work closely with full-time classroom teachers and building literacy coaches to align your instructional lessons with core grade-level curriculum goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging reading and writing lessons that align with Missouri Learning Standards and meet the diverse learning needs of elementary students.
  • Lead guided reading groups and explicit writing workshops to provide differentiated instruction for struggling, on-level, and advanced readers.
  • Administer quick, informal reading assessments to track student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Create a warm, structured, and culturally responsive classroom space where students feel safe taking creative risks with their reading and writing.
  • Participate in brief check-ins with grade-level teams to ensure instruction is cohesive and supports classroom goals.
