About The Position

The Part-Time Adult Education GED Instructor for Walker County supports adult learners in acquiring basic skills, high school equivalency, or preparing them for college or career training. This role involves planning and delivering direct instruction, including curriculum development and lesson planning. The instructor will serve the learner holistically by assessing individual needs and tailoring instruction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Adult Education
  • Proficient in classroom management
  • Work effectively with students, faculty, administrators and staff in the AEL program.
  • Must develop a thorough knowledge of the Adult Education policies and procedures and have the ability to use that information in various situations.
  • Work independently under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in State approved assessment utilized by Adult Education and Literacy preferred
  • Familiar with various community resources that are beneficial to the adult education population.

Responsibilities

  • Apply researched-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and tools appropriate to the needs of the student.
  • Use lesson plans that integrate instruction across content areas.
  • Provide continuous feedback and adjust instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Integrate work-, family-, and community-related activities into instruction.
  • Administer or interpret appropriate assessments.
  • Plan learning experiences that are interactive and relevant to the workplace environment.
  • Use formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document student progress.
  • Collect and manage accurate data for program improvement and accountability.
  • Participate in the retention and follow-up of students.
  • Monitor student progress and attendance.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Assess students’ needs and goals and promote program in the community.
  • Attend required professional development activities.
  • Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
