About The Position

This is a part-time, non-eligible position limited to 1,000 hours/year. Employees of this classification assist higher level employees involved in the general maintenance and operation of Glen Oaks Golf Course and Catalpa Oaks County Park. Safely operates groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors or equipment and vehicles for grounds maintenance tasks. Performs custodial duties in restrooms, rentals, and public areas including cleaning and trash removal. May perform groundskeeping or building maintenance tasks to maintain park properties, rental facilities, and landscaping for use by the general public and private rentals. Moves facility and recreation equipment such as picnic tables, trash cans, folding tables and chairs. Operates and carries maintenance equipment such rakes, shovels, trimmers, commercial blowers, etc. Performs, as needed, duties generally performed by lower-level maintenance personnel including activities such as: grooming and cleaning of parks and related facilities, patrolling park areas, and giving information and assistance to park users. May also be responsible to perform the duties of other part-time seasonal employees in various classes when necessary to meet staffing needs. Responsible for proper work procedures and safety practices. May be assigned to a day, afternoon or midnight shift, during weekdays, weekends and/or holidays to meet staffing requirements and perform duties as assigned. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Requirements

  • Must have passed their 18th birthday OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate or the State requirements for a G.E.D. certificate; OR be an emancipated minor.
  • When assigned to Golf Course Pro Shop, Grill rooms or Beverage Cart, must have passed their 18th birthday, per the State of Michigan, due to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Out of country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
  • Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur’s license.
  • Maintenance staff perform groundskeeping duties including mowing using power equipment and tractors, trash removal, tree maintenance including planting, pruning, and line trimming, and custodial duties in restrooms, rentals, and public areas.
  • Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
  • Ability to operate equipment as assigned to complete work duties including but not limited to computers, phones, hand tools, power tools such as weed whips, blowers, snow throwers, motorized grounds keeping tractors and ride on mowers, golf carts, or other maintenance vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors or equipment and vehicles for grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Perform custodial duties in restrooms, rentals, and public areas including cleaning and trash removal.
  • Perform groundskeeping or building maintenance tasks to maintain park properties, rental facilities, and landscaping for use by the general public and private rentals.
  • Move facility and recreation equipment such as picnic tables, trash cans, folding tables and chairs.
  • Operate and carry maintenance equipment such as rakes, shovels, trimmers, commercial blowers, etc.
  • Perform duties generally performed by lower-level maintenance personnel including activities such as: grooming and cleaning of parks and related facilities, patrolling park areas, and giving information and assistance to park users.
  • Perform the duties of other part-time seasonal employees in various classes when necessary to meet staffing needs.
  • Responsible for proper work procedures and safety practices.
  • May be assigned to a day, afternoon or midnight shift, during weekdays, weekends and/or holidays to meet staffing requirements and perform duties as assigned.
  • Utilize current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
  • Answer public inquiries regarding other County parks.
  • Perform light maintenance and custodial duties for a safe and clean customer experience.
  • Assist with groundskeeping and maintenance duties as directed by higher level staff which may include operating power equipment such as chainsaws, line trimmers, mowers, or tractors, using hand tools such as trimmers, shovels, trowels or performing other maintenance support tasks and custodial duties.
  • Support safety of park guests through observation, reporting of risks, and participating in emergency response protocols and reporting as directed by higher level staff and emergency response teams.
  • May assist with preventive and general maintenance work required in the construction, renovation, and general maintenance and repair of Parks and Recreation buildings, projects, facilities, and grounds.
  • Perform golf course mowing using power equipment, bunker maintenance, trash removal, tree maintenance including planting, pruning and line trimming, and custodial services in restrooms and public areas.
  • May assist with cart staging and cleaning when lower-level staff are not available.
  • May assist with repair and installation of irrigation equipment on golf courses or start up and shut down of golf course irrigation systems on a yearly basis.
