About The Position

The purpose of this part-time, year-round position is to perform custodial functions and light maintenance of multiple parks and greenways. This position reports to the Park Operations Manager for daily tasks and assignments. This position averages up to 28 hours per week with flexible days and times.

Requirements

  • Reliable and organized, on time and accurate with daily reporting and daily schedules.
  • Ability to interact and communicate in a positive, professional manner with team and public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
  • Ability to use technology tools such as tablets and smart devices.
  • Ability to exert heavy physical effort necessary to perform certain park maintenance tasks, involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing 20-90 pounds.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position and individual must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license and be insurable.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year related experience involving grounds maintenance, custodial work, building maintenance, or manual labor preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) in maintaining clean and beautiful parks and greenways
  • Perform routine cleaning and restocking of restroom facilities Including spraying cleaners, scrubbing, and wiping down fixtures, sweeping, mopping, eliminating nests, spider webs and dust
  • Monitor for proper function of lights, locks, doors, sinks and toilets
  • Empty, restock, and clean trash cans, recycling cans, and pet waste stations
  • Monitor recreational areas including picnic shelters, trails, parking lots, and playgrounds for various waste and debris
  • Remove invasive or undesirable vegetation from managed areas
  • Use blowers or brooms to remove vegetation and debris from various surfaces
  • Monitor for hazards such as uneven surfaces, storm damage, or unforeseen circumstances
  • Report faulty equipment, damaged recreational assets, or safety concerns
  • Perform snow and ice management including shoveling, snow blowing, and salt application
  • Assist and support CCPR staff with special events, volunteer, and natural resource program activities.
  • Follow all safety measures to ensure the safety of employees, volunteers, and the public
