About The Position

Under basic supervision, performs semiskilled general labor work to repair and fabricate structures in City parks for the Parks and Recreation Department (PRD). Operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with safety regulations and standard procedures. Duties may vary according to assignment. The position supports PRD operations and the relationship between the City of Odessa and the public through courteous, cooperative conduct and regular, timely attendance. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations will be made as required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid Texas State Driver's License.
Skill in safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Ability to read blueprints and follow standard operating and safety procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; constant physical effort is required.
Must follow safety precautions and wear City-approved safety shoes.

General maintenance, construction, or welding experience is desired.

Responsibilities

Perform general labor to maintain, repair, and construct safe, attractive, user-friendly City park facilities.
Inspect park facilities and equipment.
Perform park repair and fabrication work, including carpentry, welding, and concrete work.
Build and repair park facilities, structures, and components.
Estimate material requirements for projects.
Assist with setup and takedown for special events.
Maintain and operate tools and equipment according to PRD standards and safety procedures.
Follow safety precautions; report problems and emergency situations, and recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
Maintain regular and timely attendance.
Interact courteously and cooperatively with visitors and City staff, maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information, and perform other assigned duties.
