About The Position

You will serve as an Artillery Repairer in the Directorate, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCACC), Office of the Commanding General. The position repairs, rebuilds, modifies, and tests M777 towed howitzers and their cannon assemblies. Work includes inspecting and disassembling complete weapons and subassemblies, checking parts for serviceability with precision instruments and test equipment, and separating assemblies and ordering replacement parts and other critical materials as needed. The role troubleshoots and repairs interconnected artillery systems, including high-pressure air, hydraulic, ballistic fire-control, GPS tracking and guidance, and communications components. It also involves rebuilding carriages, mounts, compressed-air and hydraulic brake systems, elevation and traversing gearboxes, recoil systems, and manual brake systems. The Artillery Repairer measures mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system characteristics; determines required materials, parts, and equipment; plans work; and performs repairs. The employee works with design engineers and contractor personnel to evaluate new or developing artillery systems and instructs lower-graded personnel in appropriate techniques, methods, and procedures. The employee may encounter extreme weather, including high winds, dust storms, direct sunlight, and temperatures from below freezing to above 110 degrees. The work environment also includes moving guns and other ordnance equipment, fumes, loud noise, shock, burns, sprains, and other industrial hazards.
