Parks & Recreation Services Worker - Athletic Field and Trails
About The Position
The City of Lynchburg is seeking a part-time Parks and Recreation Services Worker to support maintenance of athletic fields and other parks and recreation facilities, properties, and shared-use sites. The role assists Park Services Supervisors with general park maintenance and recreation support, with an emphasis on athletic-field maintenance, mowing, marking, and related tasks. A well-rounded, experienced turf professional is preferred. The position is scheduled three days per week, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or as scheduled by the supervisor. Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote settings, with frequent physical activity and operation of machinery. Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Paid time off is offered.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
- CPR/General First-Aid Certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day general park maintenance and recreation support, emphasizing athletic-field maintenance, mowing, and field marking.
- Operate motorized and handheld equipment, including field-marking machines, groomers, tampers, light trucks, and mowers.
- Operate heavy equipment, including tractors, loaders, and skid steers, for field and park maintenance, special projects, and snow removal at assigned properties.
- Maintain athletic fields, including chemical application and sport-specific field maintenance.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain existing irrigation systems.
- Perform simple building and park maintenance, such as carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, and electrical tasks, as needed.
- Inspect facilities with City agencies to ensure compliance with applicable safety and maintenance standards.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with customers, peers, and others.
- Monitor and assist with rentals and use of Parks and Recreation-managed or shared parks and facilities.
- Maintain accurate work logs, report hazards, and follow safety policies and environmental regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
