About The Position

The Parks & Recreation Maintenance Worker II performs skilled work in construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and park amenities. An employee in this class, under general supervision, performs duties and provides general directions to a variety of light construction, maintenance and repair projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of a lead worker or other operating official. Supervision may be exercised over unskilled or semi-skilled workers. May be subject to emergency call as part of routine duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in the operation of the assigned equipment.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license for equipment operated
  • Any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of several kinds of complex automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of automotive equipment used on various jobs.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance requirements for safe equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of the traffic laws of Pensacola and the State of Florida.
  • Skill in the operation of the assigned equipment.
  • Ability to operate automotive equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate light equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Completes pre-trip inspections, checks equipment for routine servicing needs, and provides minor maintenance work when required, which includes ensuring that all equipment and systems are operational.
  • Operates a backhoe, tractor, and other specialized equipment.
  • Runs paint machines for the purpose of lining athletic fields.
  • Removes trash and debris from City parks.
  • Performs general groundskeeping, to include mowing, weed-eating, and tree trimming.
  • Lead light construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Operates automotive and mechanical equipment; uses a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Keeps routine records and makes simple reports.
  • Performs setup and takedown of barricades.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
