About The Position

Under general direction, the Parks Project Manager II - Part Time directs the activities of planning and design teams responsible for the acquisition, planning and design of park development projects, negotiates professional service agreements and supervises park construction activities, and manages complex park planning initiatives. Provides administrative and technical support for park planning projects, applying knowledge of design, engineering, and planning practices. Assists with contracts, project documentation, and coordination of planning activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of architecture, landscape architecture, and engineering practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of park planning and design practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of comprehensive urban planning and site planning methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of park maintenance practices and the ability to apply them effectively.
  • Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill with organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
  • Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.
  • Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.
  • Ability to work within a set schedule.
  • Ability to operate an integrated computer system, and project management systems and prepare reports.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle with the public in all conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or related field.
  • Must obtain certification in architecture, engineering, and/or planning within 12 months of employment.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience of parks planning.
  • Certification in irrigation installation and/or playground safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and technical support for park planning projects, applying knowledge of design, engineering, and planning practices.
  • Assists with contracts, project documentation, and coordination of planning activities.
  • Prepare and revise contracts, agreements, and project documents.
  • Support development of bid specs, file systems, and planning procedures.
  • Research and compile data on park design, maintenance, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with staff, consultants, and contractors on project tasks.
  • Maintain records, track budgets, and assist with public communications.
  • Organize meetings, prepare agendas, and document planning activities.
  • Develop, revise professional service, interposal, and construction agreements/contracts.
  • Research, investigate and develop processes and procedures, such as capital project specification documents, bidding procedures and file structures.
