Parks Maintenance Technician: Part-Time
About The Position
The Parks Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of parks equipment and landscaping and irrigation systems. This role involves inspecting and repairing playground equipment, park restroom facilities, and irrigation systems. It also includes performing landscaping duties such as planting, watering, and pruning, as well as mowing, weed eating, and trash pickup. The technician is responsible for painting and rust protection, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and tools, and driving trucks for loading and hauling. Routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment are also key responsibilities, along with performing labor for construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew and operating various power construction and maintenance equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of related work experience in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work safely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Nice To Haves
- Bilingual: Spanish and English preferred.
- Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and skill in landscaping procedures.
Responsibilities
- Inspects and/or repairs parks playground equipment at frequent intervals to ensure proper and safe functioning.
- Inspects, cleans, and/or repairs park restroom facilities to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Inspects and/or repairs irrigation systems, including working with PVC pipe fittings, dripline, and sprinkler parts.
- Performs landscaping duties such as planting, transplanting, watering, pruning, and selecting plants, flowers, bushes, and trees.
- Responsible for mowing, weed eating, and trash pickup of park grounds and other assigned areas.
- Responsible for painting and rust protection to parks grounds equipment, facilities, and signs.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking them after use.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment, gravel, and sand.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and reports defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.
- Inspects and/or repairs streets and drainage systems.
- Installs and repairs street signs.
- Performs pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole cleaning, storm sewer pipe repair, laying, and backfilling.
- Places traffic control barrels, barriers, and barricades.
- Uses front-end loader and tractor as assigned.
- Performs minor electrical work, such as replacing plugs and outlets.
- Operates light and medium front-end loaders.
- Trains other staff when assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
