About The Position

This position performs entry-level, labor-intensive work in support of the maintenance, upkeep, and improvement of County parks, grounds, and related facilities. This position assists with a variety of routine tasks, including grounds maintenance, landscaping, custodial services, minor repairs, and support for construction and seasonal operations such as snow removal and event setup. Work involves operating basic tools and equipment, maintaining park cleanliness and safety, and supporting higher-level technicians with assigned projects and daily maintenance activities. Supervision is received from a Park Maintenance Supervisor and/or Parks Maintenance Leader.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of general construction
  • Knowledge of equipment used in the maintenance of park and county grounds
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow directions and compete work in a timely manner
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks
  • Ability to observe all safety protocols and procedures
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL driver's license within one (1) year of start date

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, and landscaping to maintain safe and aesthetically pleasing park environments
  • Clean and maintain park facilities including restrooms, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and other public-use areas
  • Assist with minor construction, repair, and maintenance activities such as painting, carpentry, and equipment installation
  • Remove trash, debris, fallen trees, and hazardous materials from parks, trails, and surrounding areas
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and light to moderate equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Assist with tree care activities including trimming, removal, and brush clearing to support park safety and maintenance
  • Support seasonal operations including snow removal, ice control, and event setup and breakdown
  • Perform routine inspections of park grounds, facilities, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies using trucks, trailers, and other assigned vehicles
  • Follow established safety procedures and departmental guidelines while completing assigned maintenance and custodial tasks
  • Participate in pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, and related treatment activities as part of the County’s required training program and only in accordance with applicable law, required training, documented authorization, and required supervision
  • Operate a county vehicle
  • Perform other related duties as required
