About The Position

The Parks Maintenance Worker I position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of city parks and facilities. This role involves operating heavy equipment, turf maintenance equipment, and small hand tools for tasks such as mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and general landscape maintenance. The position also includes installing and maintaining irrigation systems, performing light carpentry and painting, and ensuring the overall aesthetic and functional quality of park grounds and structures. Occasional weekend work may be required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions.
• Ability to work well with the public and co-workers.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Ability to walk over rough or uneven surfaces.
• Ability to stoop, stretch, kneel and work in confined spaces.
• Knowledge of safe operations and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Possession and maintenance of a Florida driver license before employment.
• Background check, drug testing, and physical exam before employment.

Nice To Haves

• FL Right-of-Way Pesticide license within six (6) months.
• FSESCI within ninety (90) days.
• MOT within one (1) year.
• Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Mows, trims and fertilizes turf and plantings.
• Operates heavy equipment, turf maintenance equipment and small hand tools.
• Installs irrigation systems and performs maintenance on those systems.
• Performs light carpentry work and paints objects and structures.
• Provides year-round landscape and planting maintenance.
• Completes other related duties as assigned.
