About The Position

The City of Medford is looking for two part-time Parks Laborers to help keep our parks and open spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for the community. In this role, you will work throughout the Medford park system performing a variety of hands-on general maintenance tasks that support the appearance and upkeep of public spaces. Duties may include mowing, edging, blowing, string trimming, collecting trash and refuse, pressure washing, and assisting with other park maintenance needs as assigned. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older by date of hire.
  • Working knowledge of basic building operation, repairs, equipment used and cleaning buildings.
  • Basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape maintenance, tree care, and basic landscape construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for this line of work.
  • Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Possession of valid driver's license by date of hire.
  • New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, stock, open and close Park restrooms and gates.
  • Removes trash and ground litter in City of Medford Parks, Right of Ways, and facility areas.
  • May be required to drive a City vehicle to various park locations.
  • Assists park staff in a variety of daily tasks or special projects.
  • Ability to perform labor safely in all types of weather.
  • Ability to prepare and read simple reports and field diagrams.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and/or work with others in daily tasks.
  • Ability to follow oral, written, and drawn instructions.
  • Ability to relate to the public in a positive manner.
  • Adhere to safety practices and standards when performing all duties.
  • Operates handheld gas-powered equipment to include string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and chain saws.
  • Operates riding mowers and tractors.
  • Perform manual landscape maintenance to include pruning, weeding, and planting.
  • Performs equipment maintenance.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
