About The Position

Responsible for designing, installing, inspecting, and troubleshooting irrigation controllers and systems for the Parks facilities. Also responsible for overseeing and operating the computerized irrigation system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • 4 years related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of installing and maintaining irrigation systems
  • Extensive knowledge of grounds maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of backflow inspections and maintenance
  • Skill in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, pipe sizing, friction losses, run times, systems efficiency, spacing, and head selections
  • Skill operating tractors, backhoes, and utility scooters
  • Skill operating hand tools, irrigation tools, and voltmeters
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting of controllers, electric valves, and field wiring
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued Irrigation License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years of experience in irrigation installation and repairs, backflow installation and repairs, and controller maintenance
  • Backflow License preferred, not required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance of irrigation systems by operating the necessary equipment, including hand tools and heavy equipment.
  • Perform testing and repair work on irrigation systems.
  • Trace and repair wiring issues, troubleshoot control panel malfunctions and repair irrigation pump as needed.
  • Repair and/or replace PVC piping when it is leaking.
  • Inspect backflow devices using calibrated gauges and rebuild devices to meet rules, regulations and standards.
  • Conduct irrigation training classes and crew safety classes in regard to industry standards and practices.
  • Maintain and take care of tools and equipment.
