Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, Public Administration, Landscape Management, Environmental Science, Facility Management, or a related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in park operations, facility management, grounds maintenance, recreation services, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and philosophies related to park operations, facility maintenance, grounds management, recreational amenities, public service delivery, and environmental stewardship.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines to the position as outlined by professional standards and federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations, safety requirements, and County policies governing park operations and public facilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using recreation management, work order, and asset management software.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies and collaborate with technical staff to implement systems supporting asset inventories, maintenance activities, and lifecycle planning.
  • Skilled in solving problems analytically; maintaining accurate records, files and reports; coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously; communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills sufficient to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, volunteers, community groups, elected officials, and the public; respond to inquiries and concerns; provide information; and receive and convey work direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), or related professional certification preferred.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Training related to OSHA safety standards and workplace safety requirements shall be completed within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise park staff and service contracts; assign and direct work; enforce safety codes and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures; administer personnel actions including recruitment, hiring, training, performance management, discipline, and leave administration; and prepare required reports and records
  • Strategic and project management which includes the planning, directing and executing operations for park property, which includes supervising special projects such as trail building, ecological restoration, and facility upgrades.
  • Manage the upkeep of pavilions, restrooms, playgrounds, viewing platforms, and other park amenities which may include trails, roadways, and open space.
  • Establish and maintain contact and working relationships with community resources; work with community groups and volunteers to lead maintenance-related and programmatic volunteer events; oversee agreements with community groups and partners.
  • Assist with budgeting, including capital improvement projects and renovations to enhance park infrastructure.
  • Assists with the development of long-term plans for park development and resource allocation.
  • Utilizes software to manage assets, registration for programs, and bookings for shelters and other park offerings.
  • Ensure processes used in assigned program comply with approved program goals.
  • Assist in evaluating fiscal and programmatic performance outcomes and ensure accurate and timely reporting and data-driven decision making; set goals and objectives for the team that align with the organization's vision and mission.
  • Review and/or prepare periodic reports of program activities and make or recommend changes in program policies and procedures to resolve identifiable deficiencies.
  • Assist in development of policies and procedures for the program, ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; advise subordinates of policy and procedure changes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
