About The Position

The person in this position is responsible for the custodial maintenance care of City facilities, grounds, and other areas for which the Community and Economic Development Department is responsible. This is a union, non-civil service position. The scheduled work hours for this position are Sunday through Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in custodial or building maintenance operations, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the level of knowledge and ability required for the position.
  • Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions and/or complaints and dealing with the general public in everyday activities.
  • Ability to complete mathematical calculations required to successfully accomplish assigned job tasks.
  • Ability to work within established guidelines including all applicable safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform repetitious tasks and have a high degree of sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to coordinate various activities and projects with changing priorities, coordinate equipment use, schedule repairs and maintain records.
  • Ability to think in a creative and innovative fashion, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to change and to apply new solutions to problems.
  • Applicant must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and have the ability to follow Federal and State Motor Vehicle Laws.
  • Applicant must have or be able to obtain first-aid and certified flagger's cards, within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial care of City facilities and building grounds, including but not limited to, vacuuming, dusting, window washing, rug and floor maintenance care, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, and dumping inside/outside trash cans.
  • Use assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers.
  • Assist with repair activities that may include basic carpentry, mechanical, irrigation, plumbing and painting.
  • Maintain supplies necessary for performing duties.
  • Lift and move furniture within and between buildings.
  • Remove trash and debris from buildings and grounds.
  • Unlock, lock and secure facilities and parks as directed.
  • Respond to City emergencies
  • Work overtime as required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with park rentals as directed.
