About The Position

Performs supervisory duties managing the operations, maintenance, and administrative aspects of a programmed or complex County Park in which park fees are collected. May include the administration of a district grouping of satellite parks. Salary Minimum: $48,131.20- $62,570.56/ yearly.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND Four years of experience in parks operations, programs, or maintenance, one year of which must have been at the supervisory level; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND Possession of a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application; AND Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of park operations and maintenance including facilities for boating and docking, fishing, bathing, swimming, and camping.
  • Knowledge of park regulations, ordinances, nature, interpretive, and recreational programs.
  • Knowledge of supervision principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of safety, first aid and CPR methods and techniques.
  • Skill in the application of first aid and CPR.
  • Skill in making presentations to groups.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate accounting records.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and documents.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside own organization.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions in a subtropical climate.
  • Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes) Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
  • Possess the necessary job-related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL)

  • In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the operation and maintenance of park facilities including boating and docking service, fishing, bathing and swimming services, camping, lifeguarding, security patrolling, and the collection and transmittal of park entry and other related fees.
  • Communicates with the general public and subordinate employees requiring the use of tact in correcting infractions or interpreting application of park policies and ordinances.
  • Makes periodic inspections of park areas and facilities, makes notes of discrepancies in operation or condition of facilities, and insures corrections are made.
  • Assists with the development and presentation of specialized park programs, classes, or tours.
  • Conducts periodic meetings with assigned personnel, gives instructions regarding park operations, and instructs in the proper use of new machinery and equipment.
  • Requisitions materials and supplies for the operation and maintenance of the park, keeps records of income and expenditures, assists superiors in preparing budgets, and supervises the training of new personnel.
  • May coordinate the activities of several parks in a geographical area as required or necessary.
  • Prepares periodic reports concerning all phases of park operation.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
