About The Position

This position is located in Pomona Park, FL at Dunns Creek State Park. The Park Services Specialist is involved with all delegated aspects of park operations and management, including administration, maintenance, resource management, visitor services, and protection. This role is responsible for a significant portion of the park's resource management, which encompasses 6332 acres with 37 burn zones. The position also serves on District 3’s Burn team and acts as a coordinator for volunteers, interpretive programs, promotional efforts, and special events.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion on annual moderate pack test (two mile walk carrying 25 pounds in under 30 minutes).
  • Successfully complete a background and fingerprint check.
  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques.
  • Knowledge of cultural resources preservation and restoration techniques.
  • Knowledge of technical report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer a comprehensive volunteer program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and record-keeping.
  • Coordinate interpretive programs, promotional efforts, and special events, including developing schedules and promoting statewide marketing ecotourism plans.
  • Assist with the creation and completion of various forms and reports pertinent to park operations.
  • Provide research, planning, coordination, and interpretation of natural and cultural resources within the park through guided walks, campfire programs, tours, and special events.
  • Write and present promotional and informational articles, generate public service announcements and press releases, and maintain park web pages.
  • Design and maintain visitor information kiosks and exhibits, and develop/maintain digital photographic records and programs.
  • Write and present speeches, talks, and programs to various groups, and develop, set up, and attend park displays.
  • Actively work with the school system to develop educational activities and programs.
  • Perform visitor services such as checking in campers, selling merchandise, disseminating information, and assisting campers.
  • Participate in planning and conducting resource management activities, including implementing resource management techniques for natural communities (natural, mechanical, chemical means, and prescribed burning).
  • Participate in the execution of all facets of prescribed fire.
  • Research the history of the park's cultural and natural resources and develop plans for restoration and implementation.
  • Advise on the preservation, restoration, and appearance of historical and archaeological sites.
  • Serve on the District Burn Team.
  • Maintain and repair buildings, fences, trails, picnic sites, docks, and other facilities.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including chainsaws, lawn mowers, utility vehicles, and motor vehicles.
  • Assist with assessing, planning, and implementing the maintenance and improvement of park operations and facilities.
  • Coordinate training of staff and volunteers to promote a safe work environment.
  • Maintain and conduct patrols of the park for security of gates, entrances, and facilities.
  • Responsible for cash fund security and bank deposits.
  • Inform visitors of possible hazards.
  • Enforce park rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Investigate and prepare forms and reports on safety and miscellaneous incidents.
  • Prevent accidents and injuries by timely reporting and correcting hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
