About The Position

Under the supervision of the Manager of Operations, performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance, repair, service, and operation of facilities, buildings, grounds, open spaces, and parks and recreation systems. Supports the team effort to accomplish the mission of the department.

Requirements

Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent program
Two years of experience in repair and maintenance work required
Must possess a valid State of Ohio Class A CDL w/tanker endorsement driver’s license and the ability to maintain continuing eligibility under the City’s driver eligibility standards.
Must be a non-smoker and non-tobacco/nicotine user, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc., and refrain from using all tobacco/nicotine products for the duration of employment with the City.
Must be a current non-probationary AFSMCE member who has occupied their current position for more than 180 days.

Nice To Haves

Two years of HVAC experience or equivalent training or knowledge preferred
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower-level employees or community service workers.
Serves as lead worker to mow and maintain park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows weeds, cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads.
Drags ball fields and line fields for games.
Performs custodial work including changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweeps floors; vacuums carpets; mops; shampoos and steam cleans carpets; buffs non-carpeted areas; dumps garbage and reline cans with liners; cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; sweeps; empties trash cans; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.; dusts furniture; washes windows, walls, metal, and woodwork; cleans rain gutters; sweeps roofs.
Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and restrooms.
Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs.
Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest and weed control of parks and open spaces.
Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
Operates tractors, mowers, jackhammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed.
Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of facility, building, and grounds maintenance functions.
Uses equipment for clearing snow from parking lots and sidewalks.
Performs general plumbing repairs.
Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.
Opens, closes, and locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, and prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.
Installs and maintains goal posts and nets for sports facilities, including soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, and basketball.
Assists in the construction of new park facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
Keeps records of work completed.
Communicates safety issues found at any park or park facility to the park supervisor.
Represents and commits to building a culture inclusive of diversity, equity, inclusion, ethics, and trust.
Meets all job safety requirements and standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
