About The Position

This position holds the rank of Captain within the Park Safety & Enforcement Division. The role is responsible for the operational, professional, and staff effectiveness of a designated shift within the Parks Department's Park Safety and Enforcement Division. The employee will supervise seven to eight full-time Park Rangers and up to three contracted employees assigned to a specific shift or park district. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe park environment through routine patrols, providing advanced emergency care when necessary, planning and coordinating daily work assignments for Rangers, writing reports, and researching issues related to park safety and enforcement. The position also involves providing Continuing Education hours training for Park Rangers, conducting other training sessions, and participating in the recruitment, hiring, and discipline of associates. Additionally, the role requires coordinating work and providing support services to other divisions within the Department and to local law enforcement agencies as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Four years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
  • Must not be worse than 20/200 vision, correctable to 20/20.
  • Must have and maintain a Class "A" certification from Missouri Department of Public Safety Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST).
  • Must complete, with a certificate, at least one additional course per year, as noted on development plan attached to annual performance plan.
  • Must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to a felony or serious misdemeanor.
  • Pass motor vehicle records check.
  • Must possess/maintain valid Driver’s License.
  • Must submit to/pass pre-employment background check, psychological exams, and drug screen.
