About The Position

This position holds the rank of Captain within the Park Safety & Enforcement Division. The employee is responsible for the operational, professional, and staff effectiveness of a designated shift within the Park Safety and Enforcement Division of the Parks Department. This role involves supervising seven to eight full-time Park Rangers and up to three contracted employees assigned to a specific shift or park district. The employee maintains a safe park environment through routine patrols and provides advanced emergency care as needed. Key duties include planning and coordinating daily work assignments for Rangers, writing reports, researching park safety and enforcement issues, providing Continuing Education hours training for Park Rangers, conducting other training sessions, and participating in the recruitment, hiring, and discipline of associates. The position also requires coordinating work and providing support services to other divisions within the Department and to local law enforcement agencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Four years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
  • Must not be worse than 20/200 vision, correctable to 20/20.
  • Must have and maintain a Class "A" certification from Missouri Department of Public Safety Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST).
  • Must complete, with a certificate, at least one additional course per year, as noted on development plan attached to annual performance plan.
  • Must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to a felony or serious misdemeanor and pass motor vehicle records check.
  • Must possess/maintain valid Driver’s License.
  • Must submit to/pass pre-employment background check, psychological exams, and drug screen.
