About The Position

This is a full-time position requiring availability for a 40-hour work week year-round. The Park Operations Supervisor is a working leadership position that provides direct supervision of team members and coordination of daily operations. This position assists the Operations Manager with operations, rides, cleaning programs, and event support. This position involves listening carefully to leaders and understanding their objectives to carry out plans. This position also strives to embody the Zoo’s values at all times, contributes to positive guest experiences, and performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Three years of operations, guest service, or hospitality experience is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured and operate Zoo vehicles are required.
  • Ability to be trained on all Zoo attractions.
  • Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgements.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, push and riding mowers, pressure washers, golf carts, snow plows, snow blowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other small equipment.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with others through written correspondence.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of correct grammar and sentence structure.
  • Ability to effectively and proactively train and supervise team members.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and delegate responsibility and duties.
  • Knowledge of management practices to effectively direct and lead team members.

  • Excellent communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, volunteers, partners, and the community.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones.

  • Ability to regularly travel assigned areas several times per day and efficiently enter all assigned areas.
  • Ability to negotiate a confined workspace while working with one or more coworkers.
  • Ability to properly lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and sit for periods of time and to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions; the environment may include wet, icy, or muddy conditions.
  • This position may include exposure to hazardous materials, fumes/odors, dirt, and dust; potentially dangerous or venomous animals; zoonotic diseases; noxious native plants; and native biting insects and arthropods.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts or oversees staff training, documentation, and daily operational reports; ensures completion following established guidelines.
  • Responds to and appropriately resolves day-to-day issues regarding park operations.
  • Recognizes problems as they occur and contributes to the resolution of these problems.
  • Ensures safe operation of Zoo rides and proper training of staff.
  • Manages department team members.
  • Ensures rides and park staffing is kept at acceptable levels.
  • Oversees face paint program.
  • Communicates regularly with ropes course partner.
  • Oversees set up, tear down, and event support functions of all ongrounds events.
  • Manages building cleanliness including gutters, roofs, and regularly scheduled custodial duties.
  • Ensures public, offices, and back of house areas are sufficiently and regularly cleaned.
  • Implements training programs for heavy equipment.
  • Assists with safety meetings, audits, and inspections as needed by the Vice President of Operations and the Operations Manager.
  • Assist with the Zoo’s purchasing program including onsite package deliveries, keep stock programs, ordering, PO management, and card sign out.
  • Serves as Operations in Charge and Manager on Duty when needed.
  • Ensures department practices are compliant with Zoo policies, procedures, and SOPs.
  • Ensures that approved safety standards and other established Zoo policies and procedures are being followed by team members.
  • Maintains Standard Operation Procedures for all functions within their assigned area.
  • Maintains all pathways year-round for guest and team member access and safety.
  • Ensures team member communication expectations are met and needs are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Works to maintain a positive staff morale and effective communication with team members.
  • Assists with department budgeting.
  • Assists in the maintenance, development, and education functions of the Zoo as necessary.
  • Supports the Zoo’s commitment to continued growth of diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging for team members, volunteers, guests, and supporters. Embraces these fundamentals in leadership practices.
  • Assists with special projects and helps other team members as needed.
  • Actively contributes to positive guest experiences.
  • In partnership with People Services, assists in determining staffing needs; interviews, hires, and orients department team members; prepares and administers regular evaluations; conducts coaching, disciplinary, and termination conferences.
  • Determines team member weekly schedules and daily work assignments.
  • Provides support and supervision to team members.
