Intern - Park Management (Summer)
About The Position
This summer internship at Palisades State Park provides on-the-job experience in managing a state park and recreation area, including signage, audits, budgeting, and capital development. The intern will participate in the daily management of the park, which has high use for camping and day-use activities and offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities. The role also involves planning and development related to annual park management. The intern may develop new skills, lead seasonal employees, and apply relevant coursework or studies. The intern will serve as a leader when the park manager is absent. A desire to provide excellent customer service and strong people skills will serve the candidate well. On-site housing may be available. Nights and weekends are expected. The park is located in Garretson, South Dakota, approximately 20 miles from Sioux Falls.
Requirements
- Must be a current part-time or full-time student taking at least 6 credit hours in the upcoming semester or immediately preceding semester.
- Must be enrolled at a college, university, or technical institute when applying.
- By the start of the internship, must have completed one year (nine months) of the chosen program.
- Should be majoring in Outdoor Recreation, Conservation Planning and Park Management, or a closely related field.
- Strong people skills and a desire to provide great customer service.
