The Maintenance Tech I position serves as an entry-level role responsible for general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of public facilities, including aquatic facilities. This classification provides essential support for maintaining structures, irrigation systems, and equipment, ensuring the safety and functionality of community spaces.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor tasks in outdoor settings and various weather conditions, including lifting, bending, pulling, and operating equipment.
Valid Kansas driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the Unified Government’s Human Resources Driver Safety, Accident Reporting, and Vehicle Use policy throughout employment with the Unified Government
Must possess or obtain a Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brakes within six months of hire.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Basic understanding of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and masonry work.
Awareness of workplace safety procedures and regulations.
Ability and willingness to learn irrigation system maintenance and repair.
Ability and willingness to learn pool, splash pad, and water feature maintenance.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power equipment, and maintenance vehicles.
Basic troubleshooting and repair skills.
Ability to learn and safely operate a variety of tools and machinery.
Willingness to learn proper techniques for the safe and accurate application of chemicals.
Attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records of inspections and repairs.
Effective communication and teamwork in a diverse work environment.
Effectively handle a work environment with conditions that include field and office work, exposure to dirt and dust, loud noises and vibrations, temperature extremes.
Effectively deal with potential work hazards which may include exposure to machinery, traffic and other hazards.

Nice To Haves

Experience in facility maintenance, construction, or related fields.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or irrigation systems.
Experience working with pools, splash pads, or water feature maintenance.
Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) Certification

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair structures or facilities, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and masonry tasks.
Perform maintenance and repair tasks on pool, splash pads, and related aquatic facility systems.
Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
Operate and maintain a variety trade-related tools, including hand tools, power equipment, and maintenance vehicles.
Assist with maintenance and repairs of playground equipment under the direction of certified personnel, ensuring safety and functionality.
Attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records of inspections and repairs.
Obtain prices for equipment or materials as directed.
Clean, service, perform minor repairs on assigned tools, equipment, and machinery.
Operate or drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects.
Perform seasonal duties, including winterization of park facilities.
Remove trash and debris from work areas, parks and public spaces.
Assists with snow removal as needed.
Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
