About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or Park Support, the Park Maintenance IV position is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled park maintenance activities necessary to maintain our parks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) months of park maintenance or landscape maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Public Applicators pesticide license as required by departmental needs.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Forklift Certification as required by departmental needs.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 50 lbs on a daily basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic skill in the operation of tractors, heavy equipment, trucks, and other landscape maintenance equipment, and basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and other park facilities.
  • Perform ornamental horticulture maintenance including planting trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers, fertilization, seeding, mowing, and sodding and other horticulture needs.
  • Conduct trail maintenance including debris removal, grading, and renovation.
  • Maintain park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and assigned buildings.
  • Maintain park grounds through litter pickup and recycling activities, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal, controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.
  • Perform power and trim mowing in assigned parks.
  • Provide support to recreation programs and special events, volunteer programs, and athletic tournaments. Support special event set-up, tear-down, and maintenance during the event.
  • Perform snow and ice removal operations utilizing snow removal equipment on sidewalks, roads, and parking lots.
  • Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
