About The Position

The City of Pleasanton is seeking a Park Landscape Maintenance Worker I, an entry-level role focused on maintaining and improving the city's parks, trails, and open spaces. This position involves performing a variety of landscaping and park maintenance tasks to enhance the beauty, safety, and enjoyment of public areas. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, or GED equivalent
  • One year of experience performing similar duties in landscape maintenance or landscape construction
  • Possess a valid Class C California driver's license
  • Work in all weather conditions and in contact with dust, dirt, and pollens
  • Work with chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides
  • Wear a uniform and safety gear furnished by the City
  • Use herbicides and pesticides
  • Work at varying heights using aerial equipment
  • Knowledge of pruning practices, turf maintenance, planting procedures, plant care, basic irrigation system components, and common safety procedures
  • Ability to read and understand job instructions, equipment manuals, and safety manuals
  • Ability to read and use blueprints, schematics, and maps
  • Ability to use basic math for calculations
  • Ability to appropriately select and safely use hand and power tools
  • Ability to use computer for work activity
  • Ability to maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment, including basic troubleshooting
  • Ability to safely and properly operate large trucks, dump trucks, loaders, mowers, aerial towers, and tractors
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to identify shrubs, trees, and ground covers
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and stoop; stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to independently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds and up to 95 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to interact effectively and courteously with supervisors, co-workers, and public
  • Ability to write legibly to record measurements and complete maintenance records
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously as part of a crew
  • Ability to perform routine assembly and repair of playground equipment and repair of wood and concrete structures
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods on even, uneven and sloping surfaces

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of California Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) with Landscape Maintenance (Category B) for pesticide application is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a Lead Park Maintenance Worker
  • Safely operate vehicles and maintenance equipment
  • Perform turf maintenance and renovation
  • Maintain and repair playgrounds, trails, and open spaces
  • Perform maintenance of landscape medians
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems to improve water conservation
  • Collect trash and debris in City parks
  • Apply herbicides and pesticides in accordance with the City’s IPM plan
  • Perform carpentry repairs and upgrades to park infrastructure
