DOC Parent Educator (Department of Corrections)
About The Position
The Parent Educator develops and delivers parenting education programs for incarcerated individuals in a correctional facility. The role aims to strengthen parenting skills, promote healthy family relationships, and support successful community reintegration. It calls for sensitivity to the challenges faced by justice-involved individuals and a commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive instruction. This is a full-time position scheduled for 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The schedule must be flexible to accommodate the client population. The position is based in a correctional facility and involves frequent movement within secure environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in parenting education, counseling, teaching, or group facilitation.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and restorative practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a secure facility and manage group dynamics among incarcerated populations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting underserved populations.
- Provide and maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations.
- Complete all required background checks.

Responsibilities
- Facilitate evidence-based parenting classes and workshops for incarcerated parents.
- Develop lesson plans, materials, and activities suited to diverse literacy levels and cultural backgrounds.
- Provide individual coaching or case management to participants as needed.
- Collaborate with reentry teams, mental health staff, and caseworkers to align programming with broader rehabilitative efforts.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, progress reports, and participant documentation.
- Coordinate with family services and visitation programs to promote healthy parent-child contact where appropriate.
- Evaluate program outcomes and recommend improvements based on participant feedback and institutional goals.
- Uphold institutional safety and security protocols.
- Participate in training, team meetings, and professional development related to corrections education and family systems.
