About The Position

This position is located in the Operations Division of EMBARK. The essential job functions include the safe and efficient operation of a bus for the transport of customers with disabilities, exercising sound judgment in emergencies. The employee will perform skilled work of a routine nature in operating various types of modern vehicles. Assignments and instructions are received in electronic, written, and/or oral form. Overall work performance is reviewed at the discretion of the Department Head.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License (class B) with a Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Read and comprehend at a level sufficient to understand and comply with pickup schedules and maps.
  • Ability to communicate verbally utilizing tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public.
  • Mathematical ability to count money quickly to determine if proper fare has been paid.
  • Ability to remain calm in tense situations that may arise on the bus.
  • Must be able to comply with strict attendance policies.
  • Must be able to use both hands and both feet concurrently.
  • Must be ambulatory in order to reach parked vehicle in garage yard from Operations office.
  • Must be able to safely reach all controls without assistance and be able to see in all directions while seated in driver's seat.
  • Must have the ability on a routine basis, to bend, stoop, twist, reach, climb stairs and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds and push or pull devices up to 70 pounds.
  • Must have sufficient strength and dexterity to provide door to door service to all passengers including the physically challenged and those confined to a wheelchair who have mobility aids and to assist them in emergency evacuation.
  • Must be able to sit for periods up to 1 hour with only a very short break.
  • Speech and hearing enough to communicate in person, by telephone and by two-way radio.
  • Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation Medical Certification Physical.
  • Successful applicant will be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination which will include a drug screen.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation drug test (in accordance with Federal Regulation) and a physical examination, with regards to the nature of the position.
  • Will be excluded from consideration for employment with EMBARK if the results of your urine drug test indicate evidence of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and/or amphetamines.

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying public transportation management principles, techniques and regulations.
