About The Position

BRTA is seeking a Paratransit Driver (Mobility Van Operator) to provide safe and compassionate transportation services to passengers with special needs. This role involves operating a mobility van, ensuring passenger safety and comfort, collecting fares, and performing vehicle inspections. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, a clean driving record, and the ability to make adaptive decisions in unexpected situations.

Requirements

  • 3 years verifiable driving record
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver license
  • Must have clean driving record – DMV printout required
  • Must have stable work history
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Positive attitude and enjoy working with the general public
  • Adaptive decision making skills handling unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to follow directions
  • Consistently showing up on time and being dependable
  • Ability to work in an ever changing environment
  • Patience and Understanding: Providing compassionate service to passengers with special needs
  • Must be able to correctly use all electronic technology after training has been provided
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Will be contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and a physical examination.
  • Will also be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and effectively communicate with passengers, especially in the event of service disruptions.
  • Provide passengers with assistance as needed and accommodate them with information such as schedules and guidance.
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipating potential hazards and reacting appropriately to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Report immediately to dispatch any vehicular accident or passenger incident and follow the incident and accident reporting procedures.
  • Assist and help passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers, while providing either curb-to-curb or door-to-door service.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and properly securing wheelchairs.
  • Collect the prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any type of fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter all defects on to the DVIR forms.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and their assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
