About The Position

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing, and preparation of fecal samples. This role involves meeting department requirements for sample processing rates, accurately labeling and splitting specimens, and maintaining equipment. The aide will also be responsible for quality control, cross-training in multiple lab specialties, and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality protocols. The position requires maintaining a clean and organized work area, restocking supplies, and participating in lab efficiency improvements. Consultation with senior peers is expected for learning purposes. The role also includes other assigned duties and a commitment to ethical conduct and integrity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operates lab equipment accurately and efficiently
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • The ability to observe details at close range
  • Extended hours may be needed
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE
  • Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments
  • Work under close to moderate supervision
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collect fecal specimens from login, scan into loads, and prepare for set up.
  • Meet all minimum department requirements for para loads and Fcombo set-up rates.
  • Accurately build loads and label processing tubes.
  • Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
  • Find missing specimens.
  • Print and reconcile queue list.
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
  • Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
  • Ensure awareness of quality control and calibration.
  • Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
