About The Position

The Paraprofessional assists teachers with both teaching-related activities and non-teaching assignments to support student learning and classroom management. The role involves working under the direct supervision of teachers and principals, adhering to school and parish guidelines, and contributing to a positive learning environment. The assignment of duties is the responsibility of the principal, and the paraprofessional's schedule must be definite and flexible, aligning with the school day and teacher breaks. In-service training is considered part of the workday. Paraprofessionals are expected to understand the principles of child growth and development and perform other duties as assigned by their evaluator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Associate degree; At least 48 college credit hours; OR Pass the Para-Pro Assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with classroom management, including reading instructions, supervising lessons, listening to oral reading, checking seat work, and relieving teachers for conferences or emergencies.
  • Support classroom instruction by helping absent children, supervising individualized programs, and dictating directions for activities like spelling.
  • Assist teachers in implementing prescribed treatments by working one-on-one or with small groups of children.
  • Prepare for activities by studying and becoming familiar with materials, learning the use and care of audio-visual equipment, reproducing materials, and organizing/filing pertinent materials.
  • Assist with routine classroom behavior, but not responsible for student discipline.
  • Supervise children outside the classroom under the direction of a teacher or professional staff member (e.g., in the hall, at breakfast, or on the bus).
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the evaluator.
