About The Position

Assists with the day-to-day operation of the classroom in an efficient manner that supports the mission of John Paul II Center for Special Learning. This role involves supporting the classroom teacher with instructional and routine tasks, supervising students, preparing materials, and performing personal care as needed. The position requires adherence to school policies for maintaining order and safety, and employees may be reassigned to different classrooms as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Genuine fondness for children.
• Sensitivity to students with disabilities.
• Ability to safely stand, physically lift, and transport a student weighing 30 pounds.
• Ability to lift and transport a student weighing more than 30 pounds with another staff person.

Responsibilities

• Assists classroom teacher with instructional and routine tasks including individual and small group tutoring.
• Supervises students independently.
• Helps to prepare materials for the classroom.
• Performs routine tasks such as feeding, lifting, and personal care on a daily basis if needed.
• Follows school policies in maintaining order and safety in the classroom, cafeteria, playground, and on school premises.
• May be reassigned to another classroom to meet the needs of the center and students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
