About The Position

The Paraprofessional implements engaging academic enrichment activities for students in the Reaching Higher Afterschool Program at Townsend Elementary School in Vandercook Lake, Michigan, working with students in grades 3–6. The program runs Monday through Thursday for 2.5 hours per day; employees may choose the days that best fit their schedules. The role includes supporting students with academic enrichment, homework, and individualized tutoring; maintaining a safe and productive environment; and serving as a mentor and role model. The Paraprofessional builds positive relationships with students, families, and fellow staff, attends mandatory meetings, completes required paperwork, and participates in required professional development. Duties must comply with Child Day Care Licensing rules and regulations and applicable industry quality standards and grant requirements. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Demonstrated knowledge of youth.
At least 2 years of experience working with youth in a structured program setting.
Good character, health, emotional stability, maturity, and strength to carry out assigned duties.

Responsibilities

Engage and assist students during academic enrichment activities.
Assist youth with homework and provide support for individualized tutoring.
Manage students in a safe and productive way.
Conduct oneself as a mentor and role model.
Cultivate positive relationships with students, families, and fellow staff.
Attend all mandatory meetings and complete required paperwork.
Participate in 18 hours of professional development per year that meets licensing requirements.
Perform duties in compliance with Child Day Care Licensing rules and regulations.
Help ensure the program operates according to industry quality standards and grant requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
