About The Position

The Paraprofessional works with individual students or small groups to reinforce material and skills introduced by the teacher. The role supports students with instructional equipment and materials, behavioral modification programs, mobility, personal care, and daily classroom routines. The paraprofessional also assists with student supervision during school activities and events, including emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

Requirements

• Meet one of the following qualifications: an associate’s degree or higher; at least two years or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education; or pass a formal assessment measuring knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing, and mathematics, such as WorkKeys or the Parapro Assessment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
• Help students master equipment and instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Assist in implementing behavioral modification programs as directed and supervised by the teacher.
• Keep behavioral logs and data on a daily and weekly basis.
• Assist with supervising students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Assist students with mobility and personal care.
• Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
• Dress for physical education activities in order to assist students.
• Meet buses and assist students with breakfast and lunch routines.
• Assist with wash-ups, toilet routines, diapering, and tooth brushing.
