About The Position

The Paraprofessional provides instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and helps prepare, conduct, and manage classroom activities. The position oversees students in online courses and substitutes in classes as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, and must meet formal academic assessment requirements, hold an associate’s degree, or have completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Ability to work well with children.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction under a teacher’s direction, working with individual students or small groups.
• Help prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administering and scoring objective tests and work assignments.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and help care for and maintain equipment.
• Help maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including in the lunchroom, on buses, and on the playground.
• Notify the teacher about students’ special needs or problems.
• Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and assigned special events.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
