About The Position

SEEM Collaborative Hurd Program is a separate special education elementary school in Wakefield, Massachusetts, serving students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs that affect their ability to learn in a general education setting. The position works as part of a K–1 classroom team. Individual supervision and mentorship are available in behavior management, therapeutic learning, curriculum development, and lesson implementation. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory SAFIS fingerprinting and CORI screening.

Requirements

• Must be willing to work with students who may be verbally and/or physically aggressive.
• Must be able to lift, pull, or push approximately 40 pounds.
• Must be able to move quickly between standing and floor positions and actively participate in all parts of the school day, including physical education, recess, and social play.
• Must be friendly and professional, collaborate with colleagues, remain calm in high-stress situations, and accept and use constructive feedback.
• Satisfactory SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening are required as a condition of employment.

• Experience working with young children with emotional and/or behavioral needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of the classroom teacher.
• Assist the teacher in implementing classroom and individual behavior management systems to ensure student safety in all environments.
• Support students in developing independence, social awareness, language, and appropriate behavior.
• Assist the teacher with data collection.
• Assist with instruction and implementation of IEP goals and objectives.
• Participate in training in relevant areas.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the classroom teacher, program principal, or executive director, including facilitated play, recess and social or recreational activities, personal care such as toileting and self-care, clerical tasks, and one-to-one support.
